Central Issues in Cognitive Phenomenology

Abstract. In this lecture I will introduce the topic of cognitive phenomenology by clarifying the terms and views in the debate and presenting two main arguments: the cases of phenomenal contrast and the epistemic argument. Then I will explore the connections between cognitive phenomenology and inner speech by presenting different accounts of inner speech and their implications for the present debate. I will conclude by briefly discussing the case of unsymbolized thinking and different views on how to relate cognitive phenomenology and content determination.
